There are many expectations for the acceptable use of technology in Klein ISD. You can click on the following link to see the full Acceptable Use Policy for students.
Can I decorate my Chromebook? No. Stickers and personalization are not permitted. Each Chromebook will have the student’s name on a label so it will be easy to identify.
Can I use my Chromebook on the bus? No. Students need to keep their Chromebook inside of the provided case at all times while traveling.
Can I get my Chromebook repaired somewhere else? No. Only Klein ISD technicians can service a Klein ISD Chromebook.
Can I clean my screen with 409 or Windex? No. Only a soft cloth should be used on the screen. If necessary, stop by the repair center and they will assist you in cleaning it.
Can I access the internet at home? Yes. Chromebooks can join existing wireless networks.
What if I forget to charge my Chromebook? There are classroom chargers available to use during class, but the expectation is that you come to school with it charged.
How am I going to get my classwork? Through our Learning Management System (LMS) called Schoology.
I don’t have internet at home, will I be able to use my Chromebook? Yes. You’ll be able to use it to work on schoolwork offline using Google Drive and when you return on campus you can upload any documents as necessary. For tips and tricks with how to do this effectively, please check with the Digital Learning Specialist.
What if I lose my charger? You’ll need to purchase a replacement charger through the school. However, check the Repair Center first.
What if I leave Klein? You’ll need to return your Chromebook and all equipment to the campus repair center.
What kind of headphone should I buy my child? Headphones should plug into the computer and should be small enough to fit in your child’s ears. You can use usb or aux cord headphones. Be careful with aux cord headphones, as they can damage the port if not inserted and removed properly, for this reason we recommend the USB headphones.

Can my child download to his or her Chromebook? Students can download certain files to the Chromebook. These files will be saved in the “Files” app on the Chromebook. However, students should NOT download music, videos, or any inappropriate content to the Chromebook. Software cannot be installed on the Chromebook, however there are various apps that can be installed.
Is my child going to be monitored while on the Chromebook? Yes, teachers are given a monitoring software called DyKnow. Teachers can see students’ computer screens through this software and can block or allow certain sites. Please keep in mind that DyKnow cannot monitor your child outside of regular school hours.
What is the difference between the two plans?
The $35 plan covers up to 3 incidents of accidental loss or damage to the Chromebook per year. It does not cover loss or damage to the charger, case, or internal battery.
The $200 plan is a security deposit that is fully refundable at the end of the school year. Any damages occurred or lost or stolen peripherals (charger, case, internal battery) during the school year will be taken out of the $200 deposit and any remaining balance for damages will need to be paid by the parent. Example: a cracked screen will cost $221, so the parent would still need to pay an additional $21 to cover the cost.
